Best things about Beaumont
Fire Museum of Texas
Demonstrates the history of firefighting in a 1927 restored firehouse with engines and equipment and hydrant statues with Dalmatian spots.
Babe Didrikson Zaharias Museum & Visitor Center
A tribute to this multi-game professional female athlete, who excelled in baseball, basketball, track, but especially golf. For some reason there's also a retired military jet on display.
Art Museum of Southeast Texas
An art collection spanning works from the 19th century to contemporary era, with some emphasis on Texas-related pieces.
Dishman Art Museum
Another art museum, because perhaps a mid-sized city shouldn't have just one.
The McFaddin-Ward House Historic Museum
This one is especially fussy, like you might not have enough money in your account if you happen to sit on a stool and break it.
John Jay French Museum
A pioneer home from 1945 with a verandah and a cemetery on the grounds.

Understand
Beaumont was chartered in 1838 just a few years after three businessmen purchased a farming community known as Tevis Bluff and named the newly formed town after one of the men's wives.
From that point, Beaumont charted a course through several epochs, namely from one revolving around rice farming to one devoted to oil extraction with the famous Spindletop oilfield discovery and finally to one centered on shipbuilding as it pertained to World War II needs. This last period was marred to a degree by heightened racial tensions and a race riot.
Beaumont is still a very industrialized city, with even essentially a canal for a river that would normally be the Neches, but it is also somewhat of a cultural nucleus, with plentiful museums and culture venues and the Crockett Entertainment District. It has also been home to a number of celebrities such as The Big Bopper and Babe Zaharias (a famous female athlete).

Eat
Eat Jason's Deli
This unassuming location of the fast casual deli chain in the Gateway shopping center is actually the very first Jason's Deli location, opened in 1976 and operating continuously ever since. Not quite fast-food cheap but can be counted on for an excellent soup, salad, or sandwich, as well as free soft serve ice cream if you dine in.
Eat Tokyo Japanese Steak House & Sushi Bar
Eat TAZ Indian Cuisine
Beaumont's main spot for Indian food. Lunch is an all-you-can-eat buffet F–Su, though you can also ask for a menu if you'd like. Portions are generous; expect to have leftovers.
Eat Elsa's Greek Grill
Eat Dorothy’s Bar & Grill
Excellent gyros. Also serves American food.
