Do Memorial Stadium
Adjacent to the CPCC campus south of Uptown, with a spectacular skyline view. Generally used for smaller events such as high school and college football games and band competitions. The Charlotte Independence of USL League One play there, as does Carolina Ascent FC, which started play in 2024 in the new USL Super League in women's soccer.
Learn
- Central Piedmont Community College - The main branch is just southeast of I-277, though there are others scattered around the area. CPCC is a relatively high-quality community college, and has integrated itself into the life of the city (though the central campus itself is still a bit bland). The college has a major theater building, with a landmark statue on its front lawn.

Eat
Eat Lupie's
One of the best-loved restaurants in Charlotte, for a variety of reasons. A highly diverse crowd (from families to punk rockers) and casual atmosphere allow anyone to feel at home; the low prices and oversized servings make sure you won't go home hungry. The menu is somewhat limited, but most items are commendable; experiment with the three varieties of chili or the daily specials if you're not sure what to order.
Eat Viva Chicken
Busy spot for Peruvian cuisine and rotisserie chicken
Eat Cajun Queen
Set in a refurbished century-old home, this is one of the jewels of the Elizabeth neighborhood. Very good Cajun cuisine is only one of the attractions; the artsy decor and live jazz bands (upstairs) add to an attractive atmosphere. The service is on-and-off because the restaurant is usually busy. Dinner only.
Eat La-Tea-Da's
A quaint coffee-and-tea cafe in the Elizabeth neighborhood. La-Tea-Da's is surrounded by other excellent restaurants and unique shops.
Eat Fig Tree
Continental cuisine with French and Italian influences. Located in a restored 1913 bungalow in the heart of the neighborhood, this is a slightly pricey but well-reputed option for fine dining.
Eat Hawthorne's NY Pizza
One of the cornerstones of the neighborhood, this pizza place rarely has a quiet night. Though parking can be a little frustrating during peak hours, Hawthorne's is one of the few good NY-style pizza joints in Charlotte.
Eat Showmars
One of many of the local chain's citywide locations, this home-grown Greek chain is probably the most unique fast-food fare in town. Don't be put off by the odd concept or gaudy neon signs; this chain is successful for a reason. Mouth-watering Greek fare and excellent sweet tea. This location is easily walkable from nearby shopping.
