    Understand

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park in Greenup County, Kentucky, is a state resort park in the northeastern part of the Commonwealth, It spans 3600 acres of features a 36 room lodge named for Greenup County resident and writer Jesse Hilton Stuart, a 63-site campground with 35 primitive sites, a swimming pool with slides, two tennis courts, an 18-hole miniature golf course and an amphitheater. The lodge contains a 232-seat dining room. It is centered around the 300-acre Greenbo Lake that features a boat dock and marina. History

The idea for a fishing lake and recreational area is attributed to George Collins and Dr. Virgil Skaggs while on a fishing trip in 1948. They put to their Greenup (County) Fish & Game Club members who approved the idea and they began to buy land and cobble together Greenbo Lake and Recreational area from funding from Greenup and Boyd County local communities. The management proved to be too difficult and the project was deeded over to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, under Governor Lawrence Wetherby in 1954.
