Understand
Victoria was first named Guadalupe Victoria for his governorship General Guadalupe Victoria, first president of independent Mexico. But after the town was occupied by Mexican forces and later General Santa Anna was routed at the Battle of San Jacinto, the city folk had had just about enough of Mexican influence and condensed the name to just Victoria (and also kicked Mexican nationals out).

Stay Chaparral Motel
Simple motel on the edge of the city with basic amenities. Free Wi-Fi and cable TV. Swimming pool open in the summer months. Continental breakfast is offered, but sometimes there is a little extra offered (bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage).
Stay safe
Victoria is a relatively safe city; however, one must be cautious while navigating through the area near DeTar Hospital; specifically, on East Nueces Street, from the Salvation Army to the hospital, there are a lot of homeless people.
In addition, South Victoria and the region near the Victoria Regional Airport are hotspots for violent crime.
