Get in
Many of the towns are along U.S. Highway 2 (US-2), what Montanans refer to as the Hi-Line.
By train
The Empire Builder provides daily service to/from Malta, Glasgow and Wolf Point. Train will take you as far as Chicago (Eastbound) or Seattle (Westbound). Westbound train also provides service to Portland via Spokane.
See
Fort Peck Dam southeast of Glasgow was constructed by hydraulic methods and is still the largest hydraulic earth-filled dam in the world.
The world famous Hell Creek Formation runs through this area, known for its dinosaur fossils. You can see these fossils at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman.
Stay safe
Winter driving: During the winter, smaller secondary roads are often closed entirely, and even the Interstate can shut down rapidly when the weather turns poor. Verify weather conditions and road status with the Montana Department of Transportation before setting out, and travel with emergency supplies. Unpaved roads are typically impassable for over half the year.
